Beyond the Counter (Chicago Edition): The Creative Lives of our Baristas

They say work is only as fun as the people you work with – and at Event Espresso, we’re lucky to work with some of the most talented, passionate, and downright inspiring people I get to know.

Yes, they’re also coffee experts. Fear not, they can dial in espresso like a scientist. But beyond the espresso machines and steam wands I want to take a moment to highlight the rich, creative lives that deserve attention just as much as their lattes do.

From magicians to circus performers, from poets to musicians, our team is filled with artists who bring their whole selves into every pour – and we know that makes all the difference. When you book with Event Espresso you aren’t just getting great coffee, you’re getting a memorable experience, and supporting a group of creatives.

One of the best parts of my role as Brand Manager is experiencing the lives of our team beyond the counter. By the end of my time in Chicago I will have gone to three of Nick’s shows, and a production Izzy has directed. And yet, I still want more.

So, let’s open the curtain and take a peek behind the scenes of these amazing artists.

Nick: Musician, Truth-Teller, Groove-Maker

Nick isn’t just a vocalist, his voice fills a room, and his stage presence will steal your heart. On stage, his rhythm builds until it blooms into a grin so wide across his face, that you can’t help but smile back. After that moment, right when the beat hits, you realize he’s not just performing. He’s sharing a piece of his soul and heart with you. And then before you know it you’re dancing along with him.

Outside of work, you can find Nick investing his time into his band, ABOLISHVICTORY!, a musical force designed to hold up a mirror to the broken systems. Their sound is raw, powerful, and deeply human. It’s protest music you can move to – cathartic, urgent, and full of hope. Revealing that together we can build something beautiful and true.

Catch ABOLISHVICTORY! at one of their local shows in Chicago. Or check them out at The Paradise, an album release party for White Lucy Music on August 15th.

Izadorius: Director, Visionary, Listener

When Izzy’s not anchoring our events with their gentle smile and thoughtful presence, they’re bringing entire productions to life on stage.

A year out of school, with a degree in directing, Izzy has already added two shows to their resume. When Casey asked them why directing, they answered with characteristic humility: I just didn’t want to act anymore. But truthfully? They have the eye, the presence, and quiet command of what great directors are made of.

Izzy leads with stillness. You lean in when they speak because there’s wisdom in their words, and intention behind the moves they make. I am so excited to see their latest work Female Ashkenazi with a Sewing Machine at 6205 N Sheridan Rd., Chicago, IL until August 23rd. Grab your tickets – I know you’ll be glad you did.

Being surrounded by creative, big-hearted people makes everything we do at Event Espresso more meaningful. Getting to support our team beyond the counter – whether it’s at a show, in a performance, or on a stage – it’s the heart of our brand.
